# Introduction to Signal Vitals

Signal's Inventory and Demand analytics takes your ad quality and demand performance data and compares it to the rest of the market, helping you benchmark your inventory against competitors and highlight areas for optimization.

The insights in Signal Vitals are generated from two datasets:

* Our attention data collected by tracking readers' engagement with the page

* Bid data from all Prebid auctions on the tracked pageview

## Attention Data

When Signal is on the page, it listens for over 40 user interactions in order to say when a user is actively engaged with the page. Through this, we are able to say how much attention each of the ads on the page receives as well as the total time the user spends actively engaged with the content.

In the dashboard, this is used to give a high-level view of your ad quality and identify your premium inventory.

## Bid Data

Signal also collects all bids from all Prebid auctions happening for the pageview, giving a holistic view of the health of your prebid setup and each of its demand partner integrations.

We then combine these two data sets to give a more granular view of performance and determine where you could be getting more value from your inventory.

## How do I get access to Signal Vitals?

Signal's data collection beacon can be delivered either by installing Signal on the page or through a Prebid impression which is won by Sovrn. To get access to the Vitals dashboard, reach out to either deploy the Signal tag on your site or integrate Sovrn into your client-side Prebid. You can request access in the Signal section of the Sovrn platform.

# Ad Exchange: Fall 2025 Impression Tracking Update

We're aligning our impression tracking methodology to fit industry standards to ensure data consistency and billing accuracy. In our most recent product release, Sovrn is transitioning our impression tracking methodologies towards bill-on-render.

## What's New:

Sovrn is transitioning our impression tracking methodology in a phased approach towards bill-on-render. In this impression tracking model, **advertisers are charged only when one pixel within the creative is viewable for any amount of time.**

## Why This Matters:

The programmatic ecosystem is rapidly shifting toward bill-on-render and other viewability models, led by major buyers like who only want to pay for impressions that actually render on a user's screen. Many SSPs have already adopted similar policies or aligned with these standards, creating an industry-wide expectation for render-based billing. This change protects you by preventing revenue loss tied to impressions buyers refuse to recognize when ads do not download or render. Moving to bill-on-render positions you to meet buyer expectations and maintain stronger, more reliable demand.

## Who This Affects:

These changes are applying to **all publishers monetizing web or mobile app display inventory** through the Sovrn Exchange. Video inventory and CTV is not affected by this change.

## When This Happens:

Sovrn began a roll-out of these impression tracking methods starting in November 2025 for several demand partners.

## What To Expect:

This impression tracking method will start with the following demand partners in particular and apply when they have won the auction:

* DV360

* Magnite + Magnite UK

* Pubmatic + Pubmatic UK

* Equativ

* OpenX

The logging of display impressions will now reflect when **the ad is in view (when 1 pixel of the creative is viewable for any amount of time), rather than when it is served.** This will be reflected in reporting.

In order to ensure that your reporting aligns with this new standard, please refer to the bid response that you receive from these demand partners.

## FAQs:

* How do I track which impressions were logged by DV360?

  * Please utilize the following seat IDs in your reporting to identify when these demand partners win the auction:

    * DV360 - 23

    * Magnite - 80

    * Magnite UK - 83

    * Pubmatic - 58

    * Pubmatic UK - 71

    * Equativ - 106

    * OpenX - 76

* Will invoicing be impacted by this change?

  * Bill-on-render only compensates for impressions that have at least 1 pixel of the creative viewable for any amount of time. Impressions that do not meet this criteria will not be counted within your invoices or reporting.

  * Aligning our impression tracking to these standards will help reduce discrepancies and clawbacks from our demand partners and will help improve overall reporting accuracy.

* Will bill-on-render impact the auction or performance?

  * This should not impact auction or performance in any way. The tracking logic is placed alongside any/all tracking pixels that need to fire when the markup is served. Nothing is being modified with the bid or with the auction dynamic.

# Ad Exchange: Summer 2025 Reporting Update

We're simplifying your Ad Exchange reporting experience. With our upcoming Summer release, you'll soon be able to view performance across web, CTV, and mobile app all in one place.

## **What's Coming:**

Unified reporting is coming soon. We're combining web, CTV, and mobile app reporting into a single location.

This update will simplify data access and provide a clearer view of performance across today's multi-platform media landscape.

## **Who This Affects:**

These changes apply to publishers monetizing web, CTV, or mobile app inventory through the Sovrn Exchange.

## **What To Expect During The Update:**

Revenue and impression totals won't change, but if you monetize across multiple formats, you may see slight variations in metrics like fill rate.

**You may notice:**

* Slight metric variations during the update

* Differences if your reporting is segmented by platform

We recommend using the [Advertising Reporting API](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/getting-started-1) for the most consistent data. Need a new API key? Create one in the [Sovrn Platform](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/api-keys).

Invoices and essential platform functionalities will not be affected. You will continue to receive accurate earnings data and timely payments.

## **What's Not Changing:**

* All core metrics and earnings will still be available

* Historical data access remains unchanged

* API access and exports are fully supported

## **Key Dates:**

* August 2025: Unified reporting will be live across all accounts. No action required on your end.

## **FAQs:**

* What happens to reporting data when Sovrn serves as a demand source for Google OB and Amazon TAM?

  * Reporting for Google OB and Amazon TAM will remain unchanged and continue to be available in the Sovrn platform.

* Will invoicing be affected?

  * No. There are no changes to invoicing or payments from Sovrn or Google.

* What alternatives exist to dashboard reporting?

  * You can use the [Advertising Reporting API](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/getting-started-1). For access, [create a new API key](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/api-keys) in the Sovrn Platform. If you have any questions, please [contact our Support team](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/contact-sovrn-support).

* Why aren't fill rates shown for CTV and mobile app formats?

  * Ad request counts for CTV and mobile app formats are not currently (as of July 2025) included in the fill rate calculations. These metrics will become available once the unified reporting update is complete and live.

# Ad Exchange: Updates to Properties and App Bundle Submissions

We've updated the Sovrn Ad Exchange to make it easier for publishers to onboard and manage properties, including new app bundle submission options, and simplified the Sovrn Platform navigation.

## **Updated Navigation**

You'll now see **Properties** in the left-side navigation bar --- this replaces the previous **Sites** section.

From there, you can submit sites or app bundles for review, upload CSVs in bulk, and track the approval status of sites and apps in one place.
![Sovrn Ad Exchange - Properties.webp](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_6e27ad7b487101d3de2eb2eae7bef2926c808cd56cf7ee1d5f749439496b5938/Sovrn%20Ad%20Exchange%20-%20Properties.webp?cb=707232aabf011b6261fb34d9b74af375)

## **App Bundle Submissions**

The updated **Properties** page makes it easier to add and manage app bundles:

* Submit single or multiple apps for review

* Use CSV templates for faster bulk uploads

* Track approvals, denials, and reasons for all sites and apps in one place

Visit the [++Properties++](https://platform.sovrn.com/advertising/properties) page to submit new sites or apps and track your approval status.

# Ad Exchange: Waterfall Deprecation

As of **August 19th 2024** , the waterfall integration type is no longer supported. Passback ads and the waterfall javascript continue to be functional until **September 2nd**, when those will be disabled as well.

This is a fantastic milestone - retiring old technology allows us to focus on new and exciting work!

If you were previously using waterfall, we encourage you to move to **header bidding**, which performs better in general, as a replacement.

## Resources

* [Prebid.org](http://prebid.org/) is an excellent resource when transitioning from waterfall to a more efficient header bidding solution.

# AI-Powered Product Recommendations

❗
This article is referring to our Product Recommendations (AI Shopping Galleries). If you are looking for information on the standard Shopping Galleries feature, please refer to [this article](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/features-in-shopping-galleries-in-commerce).

Product Recommendations help publishers and creators add shoppable product galleries to their content automatically. Using AI, the feature analyzes your page, recommends relevant affiliate products, and displays them in a customizable, responsive gallery designed to increase clicks and conversions.

This is a set-and-forget way to enhance commerce content without manually building or maintaining shopping galleries.
![AI Product Recommendations.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_3026fd3ff085750963eecbbacc806339e03e7d3694796cbe68f47b31d6851816/AI%20Product%20Recommendations.png?cb=9837fd13d17d9c010698944cce91de01)

## **What are AI-Powered Product Recommendations?**

Product Recommendations are AI-powered, on-page product galleries that automatically surface relevant affiliate products based on your content.

Unlike traditional shopping galleries, which require manual product selection, link creation, and ongoing maintenance, Product Recommendations handles everything for you, from product discovery to link optimization.

### **How Product Recommendations Work**

Product Recommendations follow a four-step process:

1. **Content analysis:**The system scans your page or content to understand topics, keywords, and context.

2. **Query generation:**Based on that analysis, our models generate search queries to find relevant products.

3. **Product optimization:**AI selects products most likely to perform well, factoring in relevance, historical conversion rates, commission rates, and pricing.

4. **Gallery display:**Products are displayed in a customizable gallery that fits into your page.

Over time, the system continuously learns from user interactions and conversion data to improve product selection and performance.

### **How to Use Product Recommendations**

Product Recommendations can be added to new or existing content, and work across a range of content categories, displaying products from thousands of merchants.
![Product Recommendations - Platform.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_10b67bfe124b0d53b735aa9adc4a2d5a0484777ff28a6271a8439a13203d911c/Product%20Recommendations%20-%20Platform.png?cb=a45f81106703aaf4c7f50dc54c835237)

* Log in to the platform and navigate to **Create → Product Recommendations**

* Confirm that the Commerce JavaScript is installed on your site

* Customize your gallery settings, including size, font, and colors

* Either:

  * Add a gallery to each page on your site by placing a single line of code in your CMS template

  * Add it selectively to individual articles

Once installed, galleries populate automatically based on each page's content.

### **Access via API**

Product Recommendations are also available via API.

Using the [Product Recommendation API](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_product_recommendations), you can retrieve recommended products programmatically and render them within your own layouts, applications, or shopping experiences. This option is best suited for teams that want full control over presentation or are building custom commerce workflows.

# Analytics in Commerce

## Where can I access the Analytics dashboard?

The Sovrn Commerce Analytics Dashboard is found in the Sovrn Platform [++**here**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics).

## Is there a way to print or download the generated chart?

Yes. In the upper righthand corner of the chart, you will see a "download" icon. It will download in CSV format.

## How quickly does the Dashboard update?

The Commerce Analytics dashboard updates in real time. You will be able to see clicks and page views as the are happening while revenue will show up the moment it is made available to Sovrn.
🗒️
**Note:** Page views will only be tracked if you have installed the Commerce Javascript on your site.

## What are CTR and EPC?

CTR stands for click-through rate. We calculate your CTR by dividing your total number of clicks by impressions and multiplying that number by 100.

EPC stands for earnings per click. We calculate your EPC by dividing your revenue by your total number of clicks. Note that EPC is a calculation; it is not a guaranteed flat rate that you will earn per click (CPC rate).

## What are CPC and CPA?

*CPC (Cost per Click):* This model doesn't depend on the reader making a purchase, so it tends to reward browsing behavior. You earn money every time a reader clicks on an affiliate link, regardless of whether they eventually buy something.

*CPA(Cost per Action):* This is the traditional "commission" model that most affiliate marketers are familiar with. You direct readers to a merchant site using affiliate links; if they make a purchase, you earn a percentage of the purchase price.

## How do CPA and CPC programs work and how can I understand them in my dashboard?

There are two ways to earn money through Sovrn Commerce: CPA (cost per action) programs, and CPC (cost per click programs). For CPA programs, publishers earn a commission on any sales that result from a click. For CPC programs, publishers earn a flat rate for each qualified click they send to the merchant.

If you have revenue without sales in your Dashboard, this likely is CPC revenue.

If a merchant maintains both a CPA and CPC program (marked CPC/CPA in the Merchant Explorer), your click can be routed through either a CPA program or a CPC program. It is never the case that a click can earn through both programs simultaneously. Our system determines which program will yield the highest amount of revenue for our publishers over the long run and routes the click appropriately.

## What is the definition of an action?

An action is defined as something that results in a revenue event. Depending on the type of program you affiliate with, actions can take on different meanings.

* For CPA Programs - sales or leads (i.e. someone signing up for a subscription) for a given merchant program.

* For CPC Programs - a click that earns revenue for sending your user to the merchant page.

## Will I earn on a CPC or CPA basis?

By default, you'll earn both, but this is a setting you can adjust. You can see your merchant settings on this page in the platform. Make sure to understand your settings as they will have an impact on your earnings. Learn more in this article: [++**Merchant Settings in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Merchant-Settings-in-Commerce).

## Why don't I see a CPA event for a purchase I know occurred?

There are many reasons a purchase might not be credited in a CPA (Cost Per Action) setup. Here are a few common ones:

1. **The Click Was Routed Through CPC:**

   Sometimes, a click is affiliated through a cost-per-click (CPC) campaign.

2. **The Click Wasn't Recognized as Affiliate Traffic:**

   Various filters can prevent clicks from being tracked as affiliate clicks. For example:

   * The merchant has settings that block certain traffic sources (some examples: coupon, browser extension, or rewards.)

   * The click comes from a country where the merchant does not pay for commissions.

   * The click came from a banned IP address or non-human browser agent.

3. **Browser or Privacy Settings Blocked Tracking:**

   If the buyer's browser settings block cookies, use privacy-focused browsers or have ad blockers enabled, the affiliate tracking might not work as expected. These tools can interfere with the system that connects clicks to purchases.

4. **The Merchant Has Product Restrictions:**

   Some merchants don't allow affiliates to earn commissions on certain products. If the purchase was from a restricted category, it won't be tracked. This often applies to products with low margins or extremely high demand.

5. **Specific Commission Rules:**

   Merchants might have rules about how commissions are applied. If a purchase doesn't meet their criteria, it won't count toward affiliate earnings. For example, some publishers will only pay a commission rate for new customers.

6. **The Merchant Currently Has a 0% Commission Rate**

Some merchants have budgets for affiliate marketing. Towards the end of the month or quarter, some merchants move to a 0% commission rate as they have spent their budget for the time frame.

7. **Refunded Test Transactions:**

   If a test purchase is made but gets refunded before the transaction is finalized, it won't appear in the affiliate's earnings. Some merchants also require the order to ship for physical products before the affiliate commission is reported. While you as the publisher may have the Order ID that an end user sees at transaction time those order IDs are not provided to us in reporting from our network partners which makes it difficult to match the order ID to a specific transaction in our reporting. It should also be noted that all CPA reporting of commissions is provided without taxes or shipping as those are non-commissionable.

## Can I disable CPC or CPA merchants?

Yes, but it's important to understand how this will impact your revenue. Please see [++**Merchant Settings in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Merchant-Settings-in-Commerce) to learn more.

## Why aren't page views showing in my dashboard?

Page views will **not** show in the dashboard if you have only implemented Create Links on your site.

To see page view reporting, you must use the Javascript method of Commerce installation. See where to find the JavaScript in this article: [++**Settings in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Settings-in-Commerce-1677511081987)++**.**++

## Why does my web tracking tool show more clicks than the Analytics dashboard?

Sovrn Commerce only tracks affiliated clicks. An affiliated click is defined as any click that has the potential to earn revenue. The only non-affiliated clicks that will appear in your dashboard are from any campaigns/domains that are not approved or pending. If you are generating clicks that are ineligible to earn, these clicks will not appear on your Dashboard. Some of the reasons for ineligible clicks include the following:

* The merchant program is restricted.

* The merchant pays out via CRTB and your click did not receive any bids for monetization.

* The person clicking on your link is outside the list of countries from which the merchant is accepting traffic.

🗒️
**Note:**You can see your unaffiliated clicks by running a delivered report.

You'll want to use the Non-monetized Clicks Report described in [++**Reports in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Reports-in-Commerce-1677511077875)++**.**++

## Why don't I see all of my clicks in the Dashboard?

The Analytics dashboard gives you an overview of your performance with Sovrn by providing you with the top performing 1000 Merchants, Pages, Links, and pieces of merchandise.

* If you would like to access your full performance, you can download our Revenue Update Report (described in this article: [++**Reports in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Reports-in-Commerce-1677511077875)++)++ or use our [++**Transaction Reporting API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/transaction-reporting).

* Please note: the Transaction Reporting API provides complete data but does not yet offer real-time reporting. We plan to update this soon to allow you to see the same data you see in your dashboard.

Also, your dashboard only shows affiliated clicks, which are clicks that have the opportunity to earn revenue. You likely also have non-monetized clicks that occurred but are not in your dashboard. The only non-affiliated clicks that will appear in your dashboard are from any campaigns/domains that are not approved or pending. To see more data on non-monetized clicks, use the Non-Monetized Clicks Report described [++**here**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Reports-in-Commerce-1677511077875#non-motetized-clicks-report). In addition, Some clicks may not appear due to a variety of reasons, such as:

* clicks from unsupported geographies

* merchant sensitivity types

* unsupported domains.

Please note that you must be approved in order to see clicks in your dashboard - any clicks made during your onboarding will not affiliate or earn revenue. To see unaffiliated clicks, you'll want to use the Non-monetized Clicks Report described in [++**Reports in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Reports-in-Commerce-1677511077875)++**.**++

## How do I see a list of purchased products?

Not all merchants provide information on merchandise sold. However, if the merchant does provide that information, Sovrn Commerce will pass it along to the publisher. You access that information at [++**this page**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics) and follow these steps:

1. Access the Dashboard

2. Click on the drop down menu on the bottom right of the screen

![image-20240726-174735.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_06fd59a5f67e1b5da390aef73df08e662bf27702cad5faacd16bce95e56fd784/image-20240726-174735.png?cb=8f85ef6defb06236c39c8ff8088965fe)

3. Select "Merchandise"

![image-20240726-174800.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_f839d856672bf7cec547e349b80cb636e0e6989acf273c1f109d9341440017d4/image-20240726-174800.png?cb=57b7c10b4b463359cd2fc9f3744032f8)

Some merchants do not offer product names in their sales data. In these cases, merchandise line items may show up as "N/A", "null", or blank depending on the network.

## Why don't I see revenue in my dashboard for a sale with a travel/event merchant that I know occurred?

Most merchants pay a commission on the day of the sale, which in turn will typically reflect in the Dashboard within an hour. However, event-based merchants (travel, hotels, sporting events, etc.) typically pay a commission after the event has completed.

## Why has the revenue in my Dashboard dropped?

Revenue normally stabilizes within five days but can continue to change as Commerce is paid by merchants and revenue reversals are processed. Revenue never technically locks, but is almost always stable by the time payments are made.

Merchants can reverse commissions for various reasons including, but not limited to:

* An order is canceled

* Merchandise is returned

* A discount code or coupon is used when the order was placed

* The merchant believes the traffic driven to a CPC campaign is illegitimate

**For more details on reversals and adjustments** to revenue, see [++**Payments in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Payments-in-Commerce-1677511001691)++**.**++

**Note:** the Dashboard defaults to showing the past 30 days. If you earned more revenue 31 days ago than you did yesterday, it can appear at first glance that your revenue has dropped or disappeared. You can use the date filters to see past revenue.

## How does the dashboard display currencies other than USD and how are exchange rates calculated?

Sovrn Commerce only reports and pays out in the U.S. dollars (USD). In cases where other currencies are initially involved, Sovrn Commerce queries the Open Exchange Rates' API to calculate the conversion. More about Open Exchange Rates can be found at [++**their website.**++](https://openexchangerates.org/)

# API Implementation with Commerce

🗒️
**Note:** Please find complete documentation for all Sovrn Commerce APIs[**here**](https://developer.sovrn.com/).

All sites/apps/toolbars/etc. that you hope to use will need to be approved by Sovrn's Network Quality team in order for you to affiliate with our merchant partners.

## How to find your site's API key and Secret key

Both your site API key and your Secret key can be found on the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) page of your Sovrn Commerce account. Each row of sites has a column of Actions. Click on the "**Key"** icon under the **Actions** column to show the associated API key for a given site. Here, you will also have the option to generate a Secret key, which will enable you to call Sovrn's Commerce APIs.
🗒️
**Note:** Your Secret key can be used to pull all of your account data, and you will not need a secret key for each of your sites. When using the Secret Key with the Sovrn Commerce APIs, use the word "secret" along with your secret key. That is, "secret 1234" rather than just "1234". [++**You can read more about authorization here**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/docs).

## How to find your site ID

If you are connecting your Sovrn account to a reporting tool, you may need to access your site ID, also referred to as your campaign ID.

Your site/campaign ID can be found from the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site?tab=approved) page. Click on the "**Gear** "icon under the **Actions** column to show the associated API key for a given site. Once you've clicked this icon, review the URL on your browser's address bar. The URL should look something like this: `https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site?flyoutOpen=settings&tab=approved&selectedSite=XXXXXXX`

The numbers that are replaced by the `XXXXXXX` are your site/campaign ID.

## Are there rate limits for any of the APIs?

Please [++**check the complete API documentation**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/) for more information. Here are the rate limits currently in place:

* All APIs under the "Commerce Real Time Reports" section: 1 request every 60 seconds

* All APIs under the "Commerce Merchants" section: 1 request every 10 seconds

* [**Product Recommendation API**](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_product_recommendations):

  * API Key Limit: 30,000 requests per 5 minutes

  * IP-Based Limit: 100 requests per 5 minutes per IP address

* [**Price Comparison (Affiliated) API**](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/product-affiliate-api): 100 requests every 1 second

## Aliasing Sovrn Commerce API Calls

If you'd like to mask your usage of Sovrn Commerce's affiliation services, you can create "alias" domains for Sovrn's service-related hostnames and make a slight modification to your Sovrn JavaScript library initialization parameters.

Any publisher can alias the API calls by creating a single **CNAME** and redirecting Sovrn API calls to that name. To create the appearance that a page on your website calls publisher-provided services instead of Sovrn Commerce's service, use the following guidelines:

* Create a **DNS CNAME** that points to `api.viglink.com`. We suggest using: `click.<publisherdomain>.com`

* Change the `api_url` parameter in the Sovrn Javascript library initialization code on your pages to specify the alias domain name.

An example altered initialization block is shown below:

    <script type="text/javascript">
      var vglnk = {
        api_url: '//click.mydomain.com/api',
        key: 'mypublisherkey'
      };
      (function(d, t) {
        var s = d.createElement(t);
        s.type = 'text/javascript';
        s.async = true;
        s.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? vglnk.api_url : '//cdn.viglink.com/api') + '/vglnk.js';
        var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
        r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
      }(document, 'script'));
    </script>

## A Note About SSL

These instructions apply primarily to non-SSL traffic. Aliasing SSL (https) traffic is more complex because of the security protocols involved. Sovrn does not currently support aliasing its hostnames for SSL traffic.

If your site supports SSL, the code snippet below will function; however, viewers accessing your site via SSL will see warnings in their browser.

    <script type="text/javascript">
      var vglnk = {
        api_url: '//click.mydomain.com/api',
        key: 'mypublisherkey'
      };
      (function(d, t) {
        var s = d.createElement(t);
        s.type = 'text/javascript';
        s.async = true;
        s.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? vglnk.api_url : '//cdn.viglink.com/api') + '/vglnk.js';
        var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
        r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
      }(document, 'script'));
    </script>

## How can I easily test out a Commerce API?

With most of our API Documentation pages, there will be a "**Try It!**" section that enables you to test what a call to the respective API looks like. In these sections -- which require zero coding -- you can test to see exactly what information will be provided, try out different filters or parameters, and of course, view the call's result itself. This is an excellent tool to explore the different APIs we offer before you may decide which is the right API for your needs.

In order to use this "**Try It!** " section, you'll usually need your Secret key to authenticate. The above section "[++**How to find your site's API key and Secret key**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-implementation-with-commerce#APIImplementationwithCommerce-Howtofindyoursite'sAPIkeyandSecretkeyhow-to-find-API-keys)" can walk you through how to find your Secret key.
🚨
**Warning:**the Secret key is like a password and should not be shared.

Below is an example of utilizing this "**Try It!** " section with Sovrn's [++**Transactions API documentation**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_reports-transactions). To the right of the page, you'll see the Authorization header. This is where you'll need to place your secret key in the format: `secret {SECRET KEY}`
![image-20240919-205425.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_adbea294ef682eec7460cec9d3c201bacb3c4d0f0d0a5197384234d2800af6f2/image-20240919-205425.png?cb=b35d4f21b6edf3ef8352871bcbb3df5e)

Scroll down the page and you'll see the Query Params section. You can fill out these parameter fields and click "Try It!" to get an example response.
![image-20240919-205213.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_7614ea53f47b0ecb325e335ca31d6a7b61ad07f7a074844fdad13c8340c289c9/image-20240919-205213.png?cb=b260b093f170c560cd1759880ab6841b)

# API Onboarding Guide for Commerce

## Overview

Unlike other affiliate platforms, Sovrn Commerce requires all campaigns to implement or install our affiliate links and generate clicks before reviewing a campaign for approval. If approved, you'll be able to affiliate with tens of thousands of merchants without the need to apply to these merchants individually. To help get you through our review process, we've developed this onboarding guide, which will give you instructions, tips, warnings, and extra resources to give your account the best possible chance at approval.

This onboarding guide is best suited for publishers who intend to programmatically create links to populate their sites or apps, as well as obtain additional information (such as transaction-level reporting data, merchant data, product data, and account data) programmatically. This guide will walk through the following steps (and you can skip to a specific step by clicking an icon below):

[++**Registration**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#APIOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Registration) ➡️ [++**Installation**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#APIOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Installation) ![image-20240725-180809.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_81b3e24636eeb6bcee7b91617423377339c2c89a12ab8355c85ecf80df70dd00/image-20240725-180809.png?cb=6d34548fd4deb420847c250e7db128f4) [++**Generate Clicks**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#APIOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GenerateClicks) ![image-20240725-180812.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_78600046ee87f987d3f6ad6219291c232481a1b26a3ee38442fe7d5710086f79/image-20240725-180812.png?cb=6d34548fd4deb420847c250e7db128f4) [++**Get Approved**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#APIOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GetApproved) ![image-20240725-180815.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_346a995687447711cd8529fef46e91856a609934ba13593fe4dbe20aa42a156d/image-20240725-180815.png?cb=6d34548fd4deb420847c250e7db128f4) [++**Next Steps**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#APIOnboardingGuideforCommerce-NextSteps)

## Registration

Sign up for a free account [++**here**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/signup) using your email and password, or choose to sign up via a Google Account. You can review our terms, conditions, and policies upon account creation, and they can also be found [++**here**++](https://www.sovrn.com/legal/msa/).

After signing up, you'll need to confirm your email address. Once confirmed, you'll be guided through the following steps:

### All Products

You'll start here on the [++**All Products**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/all-products) tab in the Platform. From here, you can click **Get started** under **Commerce** box on the right, or click [++**Commerce**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce) on the left-side navigation bar. Either method will take you to the [++**Getting Started**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/getting-started) page for Commerce.

You'll be able to return to the [++**All Products**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/all-products) tab anytime to learn more and implement other products.

### Getting Started

From here, click on the blue **Apply Now** on the **Affiliate marketing made easy** page. This will walk you through a few steps you'll need to complete to start monetizing, which are described below:

### Submit Site for Approval

You'll be prompted to submit a site (or "campaign") for approval. You will have the option to come back later and submit more campaigns using the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) page**,** which will be accessible in the Platform after you have at least one approved campaign.

You'll also need to read and accept **Terms and Conditions** at this point.

## Installation

You're making great progress! Next, you'll need to add Sovrn's affiliate links to your site.

Our API suite offers a host of options to customize your Sovrn Commerce experience. You can find the full Sovrn Commerce API documentation [++**here**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/).

To implement Commerce and create links through the API, we recommend using the [++**Redirect API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls) or the [++**Link Check API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/link).

[++**Redirect API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls) will give you an overview of how to build an affiliate link by adding in the Sovrn redirect information. Think of this as stitching together the different pieces of an affiliate link. This is best used for extremely custom integrations, where you may want to add your own Tracking ID. This API will not perform an affiliation check, but will wrap any link with a Sovrn affiliate redirect, regardless of if Sovrn currently has an active relationship with this merchant.
⭐
**Tip:** With the Redirect API, you can add a Custom Tracking ID to your links (CUID). This is an ID of your choosing to help you identify either a specific user on your campaign, or a specific pattern among your links. This ID has a 32 alphanumeric character limit.

The [++**Link Check API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/link) will also return an affiliate link, simply by submitting an outgoing URL and your campaign's API key (which you can find on the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site?tab=approved) page by clicking the "Key" icon next to your campaign or by using the [++**Campaign API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/campaigns)). With this API, you can see whether a URL is affiliatable, as well as the current estimated EPC (EEPC) for this link.

Your campaign must be approved for Sovrn Commerce before you can use the Link Check API.
🚨
**Warning:**The EEPC (estimated earnings per click) returned through this API is only an estimate based off what other publishers have received from this merchant. Your actual performance may vary.

Once you've created your Sovrn affiliate link through either of these methods, you can add these links to your campaign!

## Generate Clicks

Once you've implemented Sovrn Commerce through our APIs, we will need to see a few clicks routing through these links. This allows us to check on your installation and ensure that we are receiving traffic successfully. We recommend sending a few test clicks through these links, or having your users click on the links that you created.
🚨
**Warning**: You won't be able to monetize on this traffic yet - so don't send through too many clicks!

You won't see this traffic on your Sovrn dashboard. Clicks, Sales and Revenue will only begin to appear if you are approved.

[++**Here are some tips**++](https://www.sovrn.com/blog/7-ideas-to-increase-organic-traffic-to-your-site/) on how to drive high quality traffic to your site/page.

## Get Approved

You've made it through our implementation process! Now that you've generated a click, your software has been added to our team's list to review. We'll review this software as quickly as we can, but it may take 5 business days before you receive an email with your approval status.
🗒️
**Note:** See the status of your campaigns on the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) tab in the Sovrn Platform.

If you have not received an update with your application/software's approval status, and you are not seeing clicks in your Sovrn dashboard after 5 business days, please reach out to [++**support@sovrn.com**++](mailto:support@sovrn.com).

If our Network Quality team has further questions about your software or application integration, they may reach out to you for further questions.
⭐
**Tip:**

* Please display your Sovrn affiliate link in a clear, easy to find location on your software. We need to see an example of this link to complete our review. Be sure that your disclosure forms include as much information as possible on how you'll implement Commerce.

* Make sure you adhere to the ***Sovrn Code of Conduct*** *.* Please review it [++**here**++](https://www.sovrn.com/legal/pub-conduct/).

* Laws and regulations require the use of using disclosure statements in your content. Review what a disclosure statement is, and how to use them [++**here**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Sovrn-Commerce-Disclosure-Statements-1677511065750).

* Want more info on our approval process? You can find more information [++**here**++](https://www.sovrn.com/blog/getting-approved-for-commerce/).

## Next Steps

Congratulations! You've successfully onboarded your first application onto Commerce. Here are some next steps to finish entering your account information, and to set you up for success moving forward.

### Affiliate with Merchants

If your software is approved for Sovrn Commerce, you can now affiliate with tens of thousands of our merchant partners without needing to request additional approval! You can search for any merchant that you would like to affiliate with on our [++**Merchants**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/merchants?campaignId=6297148&tab=preferred) page to find their individual rate information, including average commission rates, conversions rates, average order values, and average earnings per click. Learn more about affiliating with merchants here: [++**Merchants in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/approved-merchants-in-commerce).

You can also download a full list of merchants that your campaign is approved for with the "Approved Merchant Report" that is available from your [++**analytics dashboard**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics) and clicking on the blue **Report** button on the top right corner.

Looking for more information on how to best affiliate with merchants? We've included more tips here: [++**5 Tips for Getting Started with Sovrn Commerce**++](https://www.sovrn.com/blog/getting-started-with-sovrn-commerce/).

### Recommended APIs

Sovrn has a variety of other useful APIs that you may want to add to your custom integration! You may be interested in one of our Reporting, Product, or Merchant APIs:

* [++**Transactions API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_reports-transactions) - For each revenue event, retrieve relevant data about the transaction, including click date, merchant information, commission ID, order value, and net revenue. You can also find CUID values here, if you included these when using the [++**Redirect API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls).

* [++**Merchandise API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_reports-merchandise) - Retrieve metadata about a product from a product URL, including brand, SKU, UPC, price, description, and image, if provided to us by each merchant.

* [++**Approved Merchants API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/post_summaries) - Retrieve information (including metadata) about merchants that you are approved to work with, such as merchant's estimated commission, domains, accepted countries, logos, descriptions, products (when available), and more.

[++**You can find full API documentation here**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/).

### Add additional sites to your account: Traffic Segmentation

Sovrn requires each unique location where you intend to add Sovrn affiliate links to be reviewed for approval individually. Not only does Traffic Segmentation help with reporting for your account, but it keeps your account in compliance with Sovrn and our Merchant and Network partners.

To learn about traffic segmentation, please see: [++**Traffic Segmentation in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Traffic-Segmentation-in-Commerce-1677511084958).
⭐
**Tip:** You only need to submit unique locations for approval (such as your Website, Facebook group, Instagram page, and App Store link). You do not need to add individual pages of a site for approval (such as ++website.com/page1++ or ++website.com/page2++).

You can add additional sites, profiles, or softwares to your account from the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) page**.**For example, someone with multiple social media accounts and a website would have segmented their traffic out properly if they submitted their campaigns individually for review like so:

* ++instagram.com/accountname++

* ++facebook.com/accountname++

* ++examplewebsite.com++

For more information on how to use the Settings tab, please see: [++**Site Settings in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Settings-in-Commerce-1677511081987).

### Payment and Tax Information

You'll want to finish setting up your account by adding payment and tax information. You can add your payment information [++**here**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/payment).

If you are utilizing multiple Sovrn products under one account, you will need to add payment information for each of your products. You can add payment information for a specific product by using the "PRODUCT" drop down menu.

You can read more about Sovrn Commerce payment methods, thresholds, and schedules in this article:[++**Payments in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Payments-in-Commerce-1677511001691).

# Approved Merchants in Commerce

## How do I use the Approved Merchants tab?

Navigate to the [**Approved Merchants tab**](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/approved-merchants) in your Sovrn Platform account.

Filters across the top will help you find a merchant to work with: site, country, and more.

The search bar is available to help you find a merchant you already have in mind.

You'll also be able to browse merchants in the tabs:

* Preferred merchants: you may earn more with these merchants as the offer increased commissions to Sovrn publishers.

* All merchants: where you can browse all the merchants available.

  ![image-20240808-154157.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_8c56e17bc5e4d44cfe6fe7e081b180d8edef4c19d8b609ea0c73fa79c6c41050/image-20240808-154157.png?cb=93dba4dd466223f234158c6ea5a3ec55)

See more details about a merchant by clicking on the merchant name.

Compare and contrast merchants you love, and discover which merchants will perform the best for your content.
🗒️
**Note** : To learn how to link to your favorite merchants visit: [Create Links in Commerce](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce.md)++**.**++

## What details can I find about merchants?

1. Logo for selected merchant and Average Earnings Per Click across the Sovrn network.

2. Potential Earnings (CPA) - This merchant pays on a cost per action (sale or lead) basis, the rates below are what you can expect to earn from sales you generate to this merchant.

3. Network rates - If available, merchant rate information is imported directly from network partners and updated daily.

4. Potential Earnings (CPC) - This merchant pays on a per click basis. The per click rate provided is averaged across the Sovrn network. CPC rates may vary by merchant budget availability and traffic quality.

5. Domains Accepted - Domains approved by the merchant for monetization.

6. Countries Approved - Origin of customer traffic accepted by the merchant.

   * Description - General information for the selected merchant. If available, "Terms and conditions" are provided.

🗒️
**Note:** All of the merchant metrics provided are calculated estimates, actual rates may vary.

## Why don't the earnings I've been making match the CPC and/or CPA rates I see?

The CPC and CPA rates you see are estimates for potential earnings, not contracts. You may make more or less in reality.

Merchants have the power to spend their advertising dollars at their discretion, and this can fluctuate over time due to seasonality, quality of supply, etc. If you are not making as much as you expected, this doesn't mean you won't see more revenue in the future. To position yourself well to earn more revenue, consider doing these things:

* continue to develop a strategy for driving high quality and quantity traffic

* affiliate with multiple merchants

You may also experience adjustments and/or reversals, explained in this article: [Payments in Commerce](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/payments-in-commerce.md)++**.**++

If you still have questions, please reach out to our support team: support@sovrn.com.

## Why is the commission showing blank or $0 for some merchants?

Our system will ingest rate data in a variety of ways. We show rates the merchant tells us they can offer directly when available, but if not, we use a system average to calculate an estimate of earnings from publishers like you. When both of these are unavailable, then you may see a $0 rate or no commission rate listed. Typically, this means that the merchant has:

* Not been paying out for purchases or clicks as of recently

* Not enough traffic to make a reliable estimate of a rate

Remember that rate information are all estimates, so you still could potentially earn from these programs. We suggest that you partner with a robust number of merchants to maximize your success with Sovrn!

## How do I choose a good merchant to work with?

While it may seem logical to simply choose merchants with the highest commission rates, there are other factors to consider. These metrics will give you a more holistic view:

* average conversion rate

* average order value

* earnings per click

Remember that merchant spending is at their discretion and fluctuates over time. The numbers seen here are estimates for potential earnings and not contracts. For this reason we recommend working with a variety of merchants and not focusing on just one, so that your chances to earn are better at any given time.

# Are all lines in my ads.txt/app-ads.txt file necessary to monetize with Sovrn?

No --- not every line Sovrn provides is strictly required to monetize with Sovrn. The lines marked `DIRECT` for `sovrn.com` and `lijit.com` are required, because they authorize Sovrn itself to sell your inventory. The lines marked `RESELLER` are optional: you can remove them and still monetize with Sovrn.

## Why Sovrn recommends keeping the RESELLER lines

Sovrn does not recommend removing the `RESELLER` lines. Each RESELLER entry authorizes a demand partner to bid on your inventory through an additional supply path. If Sovrn chooses not to bid on an impression, those requests can be routed to authorized resellers who may want to bid on the inventory instead.

Removing a RESELLER line eliminates that partner's ability to spend on your inventory entirely. Fewer authorized paths means fewer bids competing in the auction, which typically translates to lower fill and lower overall revenue. The lines are optional, but they exist to work in your favor.

## Which lines you must never remove

The `lijit.com` lines marked `DIRECT` are required for Sovrn to serve ads on your inventory at all. [http://Lijit.com](http://lijit.com/) is Sovrn's ad serving domain, and removing these lines will break ad delivery --- see [Can I remove the lijit.com lines from my ads.txt file?](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb) for details.

If you're unsure whether a specific line in your file is safe to remove, compare your file against the lines in your Sovrn account [**here**](https://platform.sovrn.com/advertising/ads-txt) or contact Sovrn Support before making changes.

# Assigning a Content URL to a Commerce Link

## **What is a Content URL?**

A content URL is the location where you plan to place your affiliate link. For example, a YouTube video, Instagram post, blog article, newsletter, or any other piece of content where this link will live.

Adding a Content URL helps publishers and creators identify the exact piece of content where a link was placed, keeping your [Links table](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/create/links?campaignId=&open=false) organized and easy to navigate.
![Commerce Content URL.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_1e6bc622228a74e2f7ab8af177ce90e1e3d6e4849d910b5540f5b2d81fbee7e7/Commerce%20Content%20URL.png?cb=4a3d0cbaf4344b57e4971a5f270a0d62)

## **How do I add a Content URL?**

You can assign a Content URL when creating or editing a link in the Sovrn platform.

### **When creating a new link**

1. Navigate to the **Create links** tab in the Sovrn platform.

2. Click the **+ Create** button in the top-right corner.

3. Select the Site where you plan to share your new affiliate link.

4. Paste your product URL into the product URL field.

5. Enter a link name.

6. In the content URL field, paste the URL of the post, page, or piece of content where this affiliate link will appear.

   * Example: YouTube video URL, Instagram post URL, blog article URL, newsletter permalink, TikTok video link, etc.

7. (Optional) Add tracking or advanced settings.

8. Click Create.

### **When editing an existing link**

1. Select a Site from the dropdown on the Create links page.

2. Find your link in the table or search for it by Link name or Product URL.

3. Click the Edit icon on the right.

4. Enter or update your Content URL.

5. Click Save.

Changes may take up to fifteen minutes to take effect.

## **Why should I include a Content URL?**

You can quickly identify clicks and revenue tied to a particular video, post, or article.

## **Where will I see my Content URLs?**

The content URL appears in the Link table so you can easily match each affiliate link to the content where it lives.

## **Do I need a Content URL for my link to monetize?**

## No, adding a content URL is optional and does not impact your ability to earn.

## **Best practices**

* Add a content URL anytime you know where your link will be placed.

* If you create links before publishing your content, return later to edit and add the content URL once it's available.

* Use complete URLs, not shortened redirects or 'view once' social links.

* Create separate affiliate links for each piece of content if you share the same product multiple times.

# Best Practices for Using Sovrn Commerce Images

Sovrn merchant partners send all sorts of information to Sovrn, and publishers are free to use this information for their own affiliate marketing efforts. All logos, product images, creatives, product names, product descriptions, and other information must be **accurate** \& **up-to-date**.

Some of the information provided to Sovrn could be outdated or no longer in use by that merchant. Sovrn makes reasonable efforts to ensure that merchant information, product images, and descriptions are current and accurate.

However,**it is the publisher's responsibility to validate that each image, logo, product description, or any other merchant information is used effectively.**

Most merchants do not allow the use of images that haven't explicitly been made available to the affiliate channel. Taking images directly from the merchant, or third party sites, can lead to compliance issues.

## What Happens When Images Are Noncompliant

When publishers are found using misleading, out-of-date, or noncompliant merchant information, the merchant will typically reach out to the Sovrn Commerce team and request that the offending creative is taken down, or replaced with something that is approved for use.

At the end of the day, our merchant \& network partners are entrusting Sovrn with this information, which we are passing along to our publishers. We trust that it will be used correctly, and not with malicious intent.

As the owner and/or operator of your promotional property, you are responsible for how you use the images, logos, \& product/brand names provided by the Sovrn platform.

If you are found to be in noncompliance, and if you do not remove or replace the offending noncompliant issue, we will be forced to take action per the [++**Sovrn Code of Conduct**++](https://www.sovrn.com/service-policies/commerce-publisher-code-of-conduct/).

## Frequently Asked Questions

### **Can I use any product image image that I found from Sovrn Commerce?**

Yes, as long as the image is not outdated, inaccurate, irrelevant, or misleading, you can use it in your affiliate marketing efforts.

### **What if there is no image of the product that I am trying to promote? Or what if there is no merchant image?**

We can only provide our publishers with the images that we are given by our merchant \& merchant network partners. Using any other image can be done, but should be done at the publisher's discretion.

Some images or logos are updated, and that merchant might not want to see that old image or creative. This could cause them to reach out to Sovrn Commerce, where we would then ask you to take that image down.

### **Can I use the product descriptions that I found from Sovrn Commerce?**

Some products will have a description that was provided by the merchant or merchant network. This can be used, but like all of the other images/logos that are provided to Sovrn, please use this information responsibly and without malice.

For any questions about this, please contact [++**support@sovrn.com**++](mailto:support@sovrn.com)**.**

# Can I get a report breakdown of my IVT traffic clawback?

Sovrn is not able to provide a domain- or bundle-level breakdown of IVT (Invalid Traffic) clawbacks. IVT adjustments are reported to Sovrn in aggregate by our downstream demand partners, and those partners do not consistently provide the granular detail that would be required to attribute clawbacks to specific inventory sources.

## **Where can I find IVT adjustment information?**

You can view your IVT traffic payment adjustments in the Sovrn platform under **Payments \& Invoices**. This section will reflect any adjustments applied to your earnings as a result of IVT findings --- though the line-item detail available is limited to what our demand partners share with us.

## **Why can't Sovrn provide more detail?**

Sovrn sits between you and the demand partners who purchase your inventory. When a demand partner identifies IVT after the fact and issues a clawback, they report the adjustment to Sovrn --- but that report typically does not include a breakdown by individual domain or bundle. Because Sovrn doesn't originate these findings, we can only pass along what we receive.

In general, to maintain the security of our network and the quality of the traffic we send our demand partners, sharing domain- and bundle-level reporting can pose a substantial risk to bad actors attempting to mitigate our security systems in place. This is an industry standard expectation.

# Can I remove sites or bundles from my account?

To maintain network quality and ensure full transparency, all sites or bundles submitted to your account will remain on record permanently. This allows us to keep a comprehensive history of every property submission, including their associated denial and approval rates.

By retaining this information, we can better monitor trends, uphold quality standards across our network, and provide you with a clear audit trail of all past submissions. As a result, sites or bundles cannot be removed from your account once they have been submitted.

# Can I remove the lijit.com lines from my ads.txt file?

No. The `lijit.com` lines in your ads.txt or app-ads.txt file are required to monetize with Sovrn and must not be removed. [Lijit.com](http://lijit.com/) is Sovrn's ad serving domain --- it's the advertising system domain Sovrn operates on when serving ads to your inventory. Removing these lines breaks the functionality of ads appearing on your site or app.

## What happens if the [lijit.com](http://lijit.com/) lines are removed

DSPs (demand-side platforms) verify every bid request against your ads.txt or app-ads.txt file before bidding. Without the `lijit.com` entries, requests for your inventory sent through Sovrn will fail that authorization check and be treated as invalid. Buyers will stop bidding on your Sovrn inventory, and ads served through Sovrn will stop appearing --- resulting in an immediate loss of revenue.

A typical set of required lines looks like this (your account ID will differ --- always use the lines from [**your Sovrn account**](https://platform.sovrn.com/advertising/ads-txt)):

    sovrn.com, 263669, DIRECT, fafdf38b16bf6b2b
    lijit.com, 263669, DIRECT, fafdf38b16bf6b2b
    lijit.com, 263669-eb, DIRECT, fafdf38b16bf6b2b

## Why Sovrn's lines reference [lijit.com](http://lijit.com/)

Sovrn acquired Lijit Networks, and [http://lijit.com](http://lijit.com/) remains the operational ad serving domain for Sovrn Ad Exchange. Because ads.txt entries must reference the advertising system's *operational* domain, your file needs `lijit.com` entries alongside `sovrn.com` --- both authorize Sovrn to sell your inventory. For more background, see [What is the Lijit ad serving domain?](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/what-is-the-lijit-ad-serving-domain)

If you need to clean up your ads.txt file, the `RESELLER` lines are the only Sovrn-provided lines that are safe (though not recommended) to remove. The `lijit.com` and `sovrn.com` lines marked `DIRECT` must stay.

# Can I report currencies other than USD?

No --- all Sovrn Ad Exchange reporting is in **US dollars (USD)**. Revenue, CPM, and any other monetary values returned from the Advertising Analytics dashboard, the Reports panel, and the Reporting API are shown in USD.

## **Can I be paid in a different currency?**

Yes. While reporting is USD-only, Sovrn can pay you in other currencies such as British pounds (GBP) or euros (EUR). For the supported payout currencies and how to choose one, see [++What currency does Sovrn use for payment?++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/what-currency-does-sovrn-use-for-payment)

# Can Sovrn align additional demand to my inventory?

Yes --- Sovrn can align additional demand to your inventory by leveraging relationships with multiple trusted resellers. Each reseller requires its own **ads.txt** entry, and adding all available reseller lines gives you the broadest possible demand coverage.

## **Where do I find Sovrn's reseller ads.txt lines?**

You can find all current reseller ads.txt lines in the [Sovrn Platform](https://platform.sovrn.com/advertising/ads-txt).

### **How often should I check for updates?**

Sovrn periodically adds new reseller partners, which means new ads.txt lines may be introduced over time. Sovrn recommends checking back every so often to make sure your ads.txt file includes any new entries --- missing a reseller line means that partner's demand won't be able to transact on your inventory.

# Commerce Bid Check API

The Commerce Bid Check API helps commerce partners make smarter routing decisions before traffic is sent.

With a single API call, partners can request a real-time Sovrn bid for a destination URL, evaluate that bid within their own routing logic, and decide whether Sovrn is the best place to send the click.

Instead of routing traffic first and measuring performance after the fact, Bid Check gives partners live bid data they can act on immediately. This helps partners understand the value of each click, compare monetization opportunities, enforce bid floors, and route traffic based on their own rules.

Bid Check is built for partners who want Sovrn to bid on the click, not automatically route the click. If you want Sovrn to manage routing and centralize performance and revenue reporting for you, [Link Optimizatio](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/real-time-bidding-with-commerce)n is likely the better fit.

## Who Bid Check is for

Bid Check is built for partners who manage their own routing logic or compare multiple monetization options before sending traffic, including:

* Publishers and creators with direct affiliate relationships

* BNPLs and shopping platforms comparing merchant offers

* Coupon and deal sites optimizing high-volume outbound clicks

* AI search, AI chat, and shopping assistants recommending products

* Apps and commerce experiences routing traffic across multiple networks

## When to use Bid Check

Use Bid Check when you need to evaluate Sovrn's offer before deciding where to route a click.

Bid Check is best for partners who:

* Manage their own routing logic

* Compare Sovrn against other affiliate networks or monetization paths

* Want to set minimum acceptable bid thresholds

* Need click-level control over where traffic is sent

* Want to compare CPC bids and, optionally, CPA offers in the same decision flow

* Want Sovrn to compete for clicks without taking over routing decisions

Bid Check fits into your existing redirect flow, routing system, or commerce experience. You decide when Sovrn wins and only send traffic through Sovrn when the bid meets your rules.

## Key benefits

### Know the value of every click

Bid Check returns a live bid for a destination URL before the click is sent. This lets partners see Sovrn's offer in real time and decide whether to route the click through Sovrn.

### Skip the EPC testing cycle

Partners no longer need to route traffic first and wait for EPC data to build over time. Bid Check replaces guesswork with live bid data, helping partners make routing decisions immediately.

### Compare CPC and CPA in one decision

Bid Check can evaluate real-time CPC bids and CPA offers together when `includeCpa=true`, giving partners a clearer view of monetization opportunities across pricing models.

### Set bid floors to protect click value

Partners can set a minimum acceptable bid using `bidFloor`. If Sovrn's available bid does not meet the submitted threshold, the API returns `affiliated: false`.

### Route on your terms

Bid Check fits into the partner's existing redirect flow, routing system, or commerce experience. Partners decide when Sovrn wins and only send traffic through Sovrn when it meets their rules.

## How the Bid Check API works

![Bid Check API v2.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_5aec39db5a2e58ba0b8cd1e472237c1d589d031ff2d43b61a89f5314a4b7d1c6/Bid%20Check%20API%20v2.png?cb=2ed6d024730187b606c1b27155df0283)

1. A user clicks a link.

2. You call the Bid Check API with the destination URL, the user's IP address, the user's user-agent string, and any optional tracking or consent parameters.

3. Sovrn evaluates the click and returns a real-time bid when one is available.

4. You compare Sovrn's bid against other network offers or internal routing rules.

5. If Sovrn wins, you redirect the user's browser to the returned Sovrn URL.

For CPC bids, the returned bid is valid for a limited time (250 ms). If the user is redirected through Sovrn before the bid expires, the returned `eepc` is guaranteed for that click.

`eepc` = *estimated earnings per click*

If the user is redirected after the bid expires, the click may still track and pay out, but it will use the standard link-optimization market rate rather than the quoted bid.

## Endpoint

    GET https://api.viglink.com/api/bid

Bid Check should be used during the click redirect flow.

## Authentication

Every request must include your site's Commerce API Key using the `key` query parameter.

This is the public Commerce API Key tied to the specific site, app, or traffic source sending the click. It is not the Secret Key used by other Sovrn Commerce APIs that authenticate with the `Authorization` header.

You can find your Commerce API Key in the Sovrn Platform under Commerce Settings \> [Sites](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site?tab=approved). It can also be retrieved through the Campaign API.

## Required parameters

|  Parameter  |  Type  |                                             Description                                             |
|-------------|--------|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `key` | string | Site Commerce API Key for the site, app, or traffic source where the click originated. |
| `out` | string | Destination URL for the click. Must be URL-encoded when placed in the query string. |
| `ip`        | string | The real end user's IP address. IPv4 and IPv6 are supported.                                        |
| `userAgent` | string | The real end user's browser user-agent string. Must be URL-encoded when placed in the query string. |

The `ip` and `userAgent` values must reflect the actual end user who will be redirected through Sovrn. Do not pass the IP address or user-agent of your server. The bid is only valid for the user who is ultimately redirected.

## Optional parameters

|   Parameter   |  Type   |                                                                         Description                                                                          |
|---------------|---------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `referrerUrl` | string | Page URL where the click originated. Must be URL-encoded when placed in the query string. |
| `subId` | string | Fully qualified URL used to associate the click with a child campaign, placement, domain, or publisher. Must be URL-encoded when placed in the query string. |
| `bidFloor` | number | Minimum acceptable bid in USD. Bids below this value return `affiliated: false`. |
| `includeCpa` | boolean | When `true`, CPA offers are considered alongside CPC bids. |
| `gdprApplies` | boolean | Indicates whether GDPR applies to the user. If omitted, Sovrn determines applicability based on the user's IP address. |
| `gdprConsent` | string  | GDPR consent string, when applicable.                                                                                                                        |
| `ccpaConsent` | string  | CCPA consent string, when applicable.                                                                                                                        |
| `gppConsent`  | string  | GPP consent string, when applicable.                                                                                                                         |

## Optional tracking parameters

Use optional tracking parameters to tag clicks by user, page, campaign, placement, user segment, or content.

|   Parameter    |                                                 Description                                                 |
|----------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `cuid` | Custom identifier used to associate the click with a user, page, campaign, or event. |
| `utm_source`   | Identifies the source of the traffic, such as `website`, `newsletter`, or `social`.                         |
| `utm_medium`   | Identifies the marketing medium, such as `email`, `social`, or `banner`.                                    |
| `utm_campaign` | Identifies the campaign name, promotion, or initiative. |
| `utm_term` | Identifies paid search keywords or targeting terms. |
| `utm_content` | Differentiates similar links or placements on the same page, such as `header`, `footer`, or `product-card`. |

## URL encoding

Some query parameter values must be URL-encoded before being sent.

| Parameter | Why encoding is needed |
|---------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `out`         | Contains characters such as `:`, `/`, `?`, and `&`.                                        |
| `userAgent`   | Contains characters such as spaces, `()`, `/`, and `;`.                                    |
| `referrerUrl` | Contains characters such as `:`, `/`, `?`, and `&`.                                        |
| `subId`       | Passed as a fully qualified URL and may contain characters such as `:`, `/`, `?`, and `&`. |

Most HTTP clients handle encoding automatically. If you build the request URL manually, encode these values before sending the request.

## Example request

    curl "https://api.viglink.com/api/bid\
    ?key=YOUR_API_KEY\

|    Field     |                                                    Description                                                     |
|--------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `affiliated` | Returns `true` when Sovrn returns an eligible bid or offer for the click. |
| `pricing`    | Returns `CPC` for a real-time CPC bid, or `CPA` when `includeCpa=true` and a CPA offer wins.                       |
| `eepc` | Expected earnings per click, in USD. This value is returned after Sovrn's revenue share has already been deducted. |
| `url` | Sovrn redirect URL to use if you route the click through Sovrn. |
| `expireInMs` | Length of time the returned CPC bid is valid, in milliseconds. |

For CPC bids, `eepc` is the rate earned when the user is redirected through Sovrn before the bid expires.

For CPA offers, `eepc` is the average amount Sovrn expects the partner to earn per click. CPA `eepc` is an estimate and is not guaranteed for an individual click.

## Redirecting the user

When the Bid Check API returns a winning bid, redirect the user's browser to the returned `url`. This is typically done with an HTTP `302` redirect.

The redirect must happen from the real user's browser so Sovrn receives the click from the actual user. Do not request the returned `url` from your server or follow the redirect server-side. Server-side redirects are not supported and will invalidate the bid.

## Example response: no bid

    {
      "affiliated": false
    }

Sovrn returns `affiliated: false` when:

* There is no eligible bid

* The destination URL is not monetizable

* The available bid is below the submitted `bidFloor`

## Status codes

| Status code |                              Meaning                               |
|-------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `200`       | Success. Bid response returned.                                    |
| `400` | Bad Request. One or more required fields are missing or malformed. |
| `401` | Unauthorized. The provided `key` is not a valid Commerce API Key. |
| `500`       | Internal Server Error.                                             |

## Best practices

To get the most accurate bid response and avoid invalidating the bid:

* Pass the reader's `ip` and `userAgent`, not your server's values

* Use the Commerce API Key for the site, app, or traffic source where the click originated

* URL-encode `out`, `userAgent`, `referrerUrl`, and `subId` when building request URLs manually

* Use `bidFloor` when you only want Sovrn to win clicks above a minimum value

* Use `includeCpa=true` when you want CPA offers evaluated alongside CPC bids

* Redirect the user's browser to the returned `url` immediately when Sovrn wins

* Do not follow the returned redirect URL from your server

# Commerce Link Optimization with Direct Relationships

Maximize earnings across all your affiliate partnerships, including the ones you've built yourself.

With Sovrn Commerce, you already have the tools to manage every affiliate link from one platform. Now, with **Link Optimization** , you can take it even further by automatically routing traffic to the **highest-paying opportunity**, whether that's through Sovrn or a direct merchant relationship.

*** ** * ** ***

## What is Link Optimization with Direct Relationships?

Link Optimization with Direct Relationships enables Sovrn to evaluate **all available monetization paths**, including the networks and merchant partnerships you've added and automatically route each click to the highest EPC (earnings per click).

This means you keep full control over your affiliate strategy while letting Sovrn's real-time auction engine do the work of maximizing your revenue.
![Unified-Optimization-How-it-Works.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_73b23a8cebaa8e40b2252956c09fd5df9f3950a067e0e132df12f8185e454b07/Unified-Optimization-How-it-Works.png?cb=c6bf65761b522b272f78362d80042fce)

*** ** * ** ***

## How Does Link Optimization with Direct Relationships Work?

1. **Connect your affiliate networks**

   Sovrn Commerce supports direct integrations with leading affiliate networks like **Rakuten, CJ, Impact, and more**. Once connected, your merchant relationships within those networks become available to Sovrn's optimization engine.

   Navigate to **Settings \> Network Connections** to get started.
2. **Enable Link Optimization**

   To allow Sovrn to optimize across your direct relationships, go to the **Merchant Settings** page in your Commerce dashboard and enable Link Optimization. This gives Sovrn permission to evaluate traffic routing for all eligible merchants.

3. **Optional: Apply merchant exclusions**

   You can **manually exclude specific merchants** from Link Optimization. For example, if you have a negotiated flat-rate deal with a merchant, or you want to always route traffic through a certain network, simply add the merchant to your exclusion list. Sovrn will respect your preferences and never include those merchants in the auction.

4. **Clicks are optimized in real time**

   When a user clicks a link, Sovrn checks all available routes --- including Sovrn-managed programs and your connected networks --- and determines which option will deliver the **highest EPC**.

   * If the merchant is **excluded**, traffic will follow the network you set.

   * If the merchant is **included**, Sovrn runs a real-time auction and routes the click to the highest bidder.

   * This all happens behind the scenes -- no additional setup required.

![Connect-networks.png](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/__attachments/a_a30d61addd4d0ae6945b0829416ee7188a70b87d1b6a7c0e47186e624b6171a7/Connect-networks.png?cb=880c936f5093f1fc1af037a3dc00a717)

*** ** * ** ***

## Why use Link Optimization with Direct Relationships?

* **More revenue from every click**

  Automatically capture the best available EPC across all your affiliate sources.

* **One centralized platform**

  No more jumping between networks --- Sovrn Commerce gives you one place to manage everything.

* **Full control when you need it**

  Maintain strategic routing for key merchants while letting Sovrn handle the rest.

* **Enterprise-grade optimization**

  Sovrn's predictive modeling and auction engine help you get the most value from your traffic -- whether you're a mid-size creator or a large enterprise publisher.

# Commerce Mobile App

The Sovrn Commerce mobile app offers the flexibility to create links and earn while on the go. Convert any product page into a shareable link and earn commissions from clicks or sales generated from that link.

## How do I access the app?

You can download the Commerce app directly from the App Store [here](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sovrn-commerce/id6446256481).

## Existing users

If you have a Sovrn Commerce account, you may download the app and sign in with your email and password credentials.

## New users

If you still need to apply for a Sovrn Commerce account, you can sign up, submit a channel for approval, and create your first link directly from the app. You may view your approval status through the in-app notifications or by tapping the bell icon in the top right corner.

## What features are available on the app?

### Create affiliate links

There are three ways to create a [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link:

1. Platform

2. Chrome extension

3. Mobile app

You may view all of the [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) links associated with your account from any of these locations.

You may edit the destination URL or link settings for any [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link, at any time from the platform or the mobile app. Perhaps you create and post a [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link to an Instagram story, and the destination URL is no longer valid. No problem! You can update the destination URL from the app or platform without creating a new [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link.

#### How to create links in the mobile app:

1. Find a product page or merchant you want to promote

2. Copy the product URL

3. Open the Commerce app

4. You will see a pop-up that asks to allow paste permissions - choose **Allow Paste**

5. Tap the **Create** icon in the bottom navigation bar

6. Select the channel you plan to post the link (note: if you only have one channel, you can ignore this step)

7. Double-tap to paste the product page URL

8. Add optional link settings:

   * Name your link (if this field is left blank, it will default with a dash)

   * Add custom tracking ID

   * Add UTM parameters

9. Tap **Affiliate your link**

10. Copy the shortened [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link and paste where you want to post, or tap **Share your link** to post to one of the social apps available on your device

#### How to edit a link on the mobile app:

1. Tap **Account**

2. Tap **My links**

3. Open the link details of the link you need to edit

4. Tap **Edit link** \> update the destination URL, edit or add a link name, tracking ID, or UTM parameters

5. **Save**

### Analytics

Once you've created and posted your [sovrn.co](http://sovrn.co/) link, you can start tracking the clicks in real time. You'll see the numbers climb as soon as your audience starts to interact with the link.

Analytics on the mobile app is a consolidated view for the last 30 days and includes your revenue, average EPC, clicks, and sales order total. You can view additional metrics, such as revenue beyond 30 days, merchandise sold, and revenue broken down by CUID/UTM, on your platform dashboard.

#### How to view analytics on mobile:

1. Tap **Analytics** in the bottom navigation bar

2. View the number of clicks in real time by tapping **Today**

3. View performance, including revenue and clicks for the last 30 days, by toggling between **Yesterday** , **Last 7 days** , and **Last 30 days**.

🗒️
**Note:** if a sale occurs, the revenue earned will not show immediately. Revenue and sales data can take longer to appear on your dashboard, depending on the merchant network.

## Is there an Android version?

At this time, the mobile app is only available to iOS users.

# Content and Blog Onboarding Guide for Commerce

This onboarding guide is best suited for publishers who operate content sites or blogs, and are interested in using the Sovrn Commerce Javascript to automatically convert the links on their sites into affiliate links.

This guide will walk through the following steps (and you can skip to a specific step below):

[++**Registration**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#ContentandBlogOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Registration) ➡️ [++**Installation**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#ContentandBlogOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Installation) ➡️ [++**Generate Clicks**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#ContentandBlogOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GenerateClicks) ➡️ [++**Get Approved**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#ContentandBlogOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GetApproved) ➡️ [++**Next Steps**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#ContentandBlogOnboardingGuideforCommerce-NextSteps)

Content and Blog sites usually benefit the most from using the Sovrn [++**Commerce JavaScript**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/javascript-for-commerce) option. It's a simple and effective way for you to affiliate all existing links to products and merchants on your website. However, you are also able to use the Create Links option, described in this article [++**Create Links in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Create-Links-in-Commerce-1677511084883).

Installing the Commerce JavaScript will automatically scan your page and convert your existing products/merchants plainlinks into affiliate links. However, you will only see clicks, and any corresponding revenue, from links to merchants that you are approved for within Sovrn Commerce.
🗒️
**Note:** The script loads asynchronously to your page, so it will not decrease the speed of your page load.

You'll be able to find your campaign-specific installation script and instructions via the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site) page when you click on the **\< \>** icon next to your campaign. You can also follow the steps below, or reference our [Implementation Guide for Commerce JavaScript](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/javascript-for-commerce.md) article:

1. **Obtain your Sovrn Commerce API key**.

   1. If you do not have your API key, you can ask the owner of your Sovrn Commerce account. The API key can be found on the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site) tab by clicking on the "Key" icon next to the name of the campaign on which you're installing the Commerce JavaScript.

2. **Insert your API key into the script below, and copy this script**:

    <script type="text/javascript">
      var vglnk = {key: 'YOUR API KEY GOES HERE'};
      (function(d, t) {
      var s = d.createElement(t);
      s.type = 'text/javascript';
      s.async = true;
      s.src = '//cdn.viglink.com/api/vglnk.js';
      var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
      r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
      }(document, 'script'));
    </script>

3. **Paste this script into the HTML of your site.**

   1. This code should be inserted just before the `</body>` tag.

4. **Check the script installation.**

   1. A convenient way to check if you have installed the Commerce JavaScript correctly would be to use the **Check your installation** section under the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/settings/site) page when you click on the **\< \>** icon next to your campaign. Input your site URL where you have installed the Commerce JavaScript, and the tool will inform you if the script was installed correctly, or else it will denote an error message.

   2. For other ways to check your installation or learn more, refer to the "[++**How can I check that the JavaScript is successfully installed?**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/javascript-for-commerce#ImplementationGuideforCommerceJavaScript-HowcanIcheckthattheJavaScriptissuccessfullyinstalled?)" section of our JavaScript implementation guide.

⭐
**Tip** : The Commerce JavaScript can also be installed via AMP, Google Tag Manager, phpBB, tumblr, TypePad, vBulletin, Wordpress, Wix, and xenForo. You can find specific installation instructions for these integrations in this article: [++**Other Installations for Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Other-Installations-for-Commerce-1677511072406).

## Generate Clicks

Once you've implemented Sovrn Commerce, we will need to see a few clicks routing through these links. This allows us to check on your installation and ensure that we are receiving traffic successfully. We recommend sending a few test clicks through these links, or having your users click on the links that you created.
🚨
**Warning**: You won't be able to monetize on this traffic yet - so don't send through too many clicks! Additionally, you won't see this traffic on your Sovrn dashboard.

Now that you've generated a click, your campaign has been added to our team's list to review. We'll review this campaign as quickly as we can, but it may take 5 business days before you receive an email with your approval status.
🗒️
**Note:** See the status of your campaigns on the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) tab in the Sovrn Platform.

If you have not received an update with your campaign's approval status, and you are not seeing clicks in your Sovrn dashboard after 5 business days, please reach out to [++**support@sovrn.com**++](mailto:support@sovrn.com).
⭐
**Tip**:

You've successfully onboarded your first site onto Commerce. Here are some next steps to finish entering your account information, and to set you up for success moving forward.

### Affiliate with Merchants

If your campaign is approved for Sovrn Commerce, you can now affiliate with tens of thousands of our merchant partners without needing to request additional approval!

You can also download a full list of merchants that your campaign is approved for with the "Approved Merchant Report" that is available from your [++**analytics dashboard**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics) and clicking on the blue ***Report*** button on the top right corner.

Looking for more information on how to best affiliate with merchants? We've included more tips here: [++**5 Tips for Getting Started with Sovrn Commerce**++](https://www.sovrn.com/blog/getting-started-with-sovrn-commerce/).

### Changing your Sovrn Script Settings

Once installed, the Sovrn Commerce JavaScript will work to affiliate links to products or merchants on your campaign. However, you can adjust your settings to customize your setup. Go to the [++**Settings**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) tab and select the "Gear" icon next to the site where the script is installed. You'll see the following options that can be enabled when checking the checkbox:

* *Override Affiliated Links*

  * If you have existing affiliate links on your site, this setting will allow the Commerce JavaScript to overwrite them. Please note that this feature only works on some affiliate links. To overwrite these links, make sure this box is checked.

  * To make sure the Commerce JavaScript bypasses your existing affiliate links, make sure this box is unchecked. Please note that the Commerce JavaScript may still attempt to affiliate some already affiliated links on your page (see [++**Preventing the Sovrn Commerce JavaScript from Affiliating Links**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/content-and-blog-onboarding-guide-for-commerce.md#Preventing-the-Sovrn-Commerce-JavaScript-from-Affiliating-Certain-Links) below).

* *Link URLs*

  * By default, the Commerce JavaScript will only automatically affiliate existing hyperlinks. If you also want to turn plain text URLs into affiliate links, make sure this box is checked.

#### Preventing the Sovrn Commerce JavaScript from Affiliating Certain Links

In some instances, you may not want the Commerce JavaScript to convert one of your links into a Sovrn Affiliate link. You can prevent a link from being converted by adding certain labels (called CSS "classes") to your site's HTML. You can add a `norewrite` class to your hyperlinks to ensure those specific links are never converted into a Sovrn Affiliate link on a page where you have installed the Sovrn JavaScript.

* To prevent a single link from being monetized, the HTML would look like this:

  * `<a href="http://example.com" class="norewrite">Commerce ignores this</a> `

* And the link would look like this:

  * [++**Commerce ignores this**++](https://www.sovrn.com/)

To prevent multiple links from being monetized, you can add the `norewrite` class to all the links individually, or you can add the `norewrite` class to a parent HTML element.

* The HTML would look like this:

  *

        <div class="norewrite">
          None of these links will be converted by Commerce.
          <a href="https://www.sovrn.com/">Not this one</a>, or even <a href="https://www.sovrn.com/">this one</a>.
        </div>
        <a href="https://www.sovrn.com/" href="https://www.sovrn.com/">However, this one will be converted</a>

* And the links would look like this:

  * None of these links will be converted by Commerce. [++**Not this one**++](https://www.sovrn.com/), or even [++**this one**++](https://www.sovrn.com/).

  * [++**However, this one will be converted**++](https://www.sovrn.com/).

🚨
**Warning**: When you sign up with Sovrn Commerce, you're not beholden to us by any means. You can work with as many other affiliate programs as you like.

However, if you would like to work with Sovrn Commerce, it's important to keep your integrations separated. Running multiple affiliate scripts on a single page will prevent Sovrn Commerce from working properly and will negatively impact revenue.

To learn about traffic segmentation, please see this article: [++**Traffic Segmentation in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Traffic-Segmentation-in-Commerce-1677511084958).
⭐
**Tip** : You only need to submit unique locations for approval (such as your Website, Facebook group, Instagram page, and App Store link).

* ++instagram.com/accountname++

* ++facebook.com/accountname++

* ++examplewebsite.com++

# Coupon Onboarding Guide for Commerce

This onboarding guide is best suited for publishers who have a coupon site and are hoping to utilize Sovrn's affiliate links. There are a couple aspects that are unique to Coupon or Deal Publishers, which we will walk through in this guide!

This guide will walk through the following steps (and you can skip to a specific step below):

[++**Registration**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/coupon-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#CouponOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Registration) ➡️ [++**Installation**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/coupon-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#CouponOnboardingGuideforCommerce-Installation) ➡️ [++**Generate Clicks**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/coupon-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#CouponOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GenerateClicks) ➡️ [++**Get Approved**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/coupon-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#CouponOnboardingGuideforCommerce-GetApproved) ➡️ [++**Next Steps**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/coupon-onboarding-guide-for-commerce#CouponOnboardingGuideforCommerce-NextSteps)

Now that you've gone through the Sovrn onboarding flow, we will need you to implement one of the Sovrn affiliate link options.

We recommend Coupon sites to utilize the Sovrn [++**Commerce JavaScript**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/javascript-for-commerce) option.

    <script type="text/javascript">
      var vglnk = {key: 'YOUR API KEY GOES HERE'};
      (function(d, t) {
      var s = d.createElement(t);
      s.type = 'text/javascript';
      s.async = true;
      s.src = '//cdn.viglink.com/api/vglnk.js';
      var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
      r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
      }(document, 'script'));
    </script>

⭐
**Tip**:

* ++instagram.com/accountname++

* ++facebook.com/accountname++

* ++examplewebsite.com++

# Create and Manage your Sovrn Account

## **How do I create a Sovrn account?**

Creating an account is easy and free. Visit our [++**Sign Up**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/signup) page to create an account and to get started!

You'll have the option to use an email address and password combination, or sign up using your Google account. You'll be prompted through a few steps to verify your email address.

## **I did not receive an email to verify my email address.**

If you've signed up for an account and have reached the step where you're prompted to confirm your email address but cannot find the confirmation email, there are a few things you can try:

* Make sure to check your spam folder for the email

* Double check there are no typos in the email address you've submitted.

* You can re-send the email by navigating to our [++**Login page**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/signin) and submitting your email and a password (any password, does not need to be correct). This will trigger the confirmation email to be sent again.

If none of these things work, please reach out to [++**Sovrn Support**++](#) and we can take a look at what could be going wrong.

## **I'm seeing an error when I try to follow the link to verify my email.**

When you create an account, you'll be sent an email to the address you signed up with for verification. It will contain a link to follow - if you are seeing an error when you try to follow this link, try these things:

* Try clearing your cache and cookies.

* If you didn't follow the link within one hour of receiving the confirmation email, it will have expired. You'll need to navigate to our [++**Login page**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/account/signin) and submit your email and a password (any password, does not need to be correct). This will trigger the confirmation email to be sent again.

If none of these things work, please reach out to [++**Sovrn Support**++](#) and we can take a look at what could be going wrong.

## **What is Multi-factor Authentication?**

When you log in to any site, you're usually asked for a username and password, this is a way to authenticate that you're the user of the account. Multi-factor authentication means we're asking for additional identification, in this case a code, to ensure it's really you.

MFA is strongly recommended. Cyber threats are on the rise with damages predicted to cost more and more every year. We want to ensure that your details are protected on our platform and only you can log in to manage your account.

## **How do I set up MFA?**

If your Sovrn account is connected to your Google sign in details, you will not be able to enable Multi-Factor Authentication through the Sovrn Platform. However, we encourage you to set up your 2-step verification using your Google Account. [++**Here's**++](https://safety.google/authentication/) some guidance from Google.

If you're using a username and password combination to sign in, you can enable MFA via your account. You'll need an Authenticator app on your phone. Some common providers are Authy, Google, LastPass or Microsoft. You may have already downloaded one to log in elsewhere.

Log in to your account with your password as usual. Navigate to your account settings at the bottom left of the screen and click on your name (the top button of the menu). Here you can set your security controls - either change your password or add a secure login.

## **Multiple people will use my account, what do I need to do?**

We encourage you to set up different users so that they can log in with their own password and authentication from their mobile device. You can add users and link them to your main account. There is more information on how to manage users in [++**this article**++](#)++**.**++

## **How do I delete my account?**

Please reach out to [++**Sovrn Support**++](#) and create a ticket with us to delete your account.
🗒️
**Note:** Sovrn respects your privacy while maintaining good compliance practices for our business. We are required to retain your Publisher account information to support internal reporting and accounting, and fraud prevention activities.

We will continue to protect your personal information according to the terms of our agreement and when no longer needed, will delete your account information according to our retention policy found [++**here.**++](https://www.sovrn.com/privacy-policy/privacy-policy/#Retention-of-Personal-Information)

# Create Links in Commerce

## How do I create a link?

1. Navigate to the *Create links* tab in the Sovrn Platform [**here**](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/create/links)**.**

2. Click the *+ Create* button in the top right-hand corner.

3. Select a *Site* from the dropdown where you plan to share your new affiliate link.

4. Identify a product you would like to share, then paste the desired product's URL into the *Product URL* field.

5. Enter a unique *Link name* to help you find and edit this link in the future.

   1. Content URL (optional): Identify where your affiliate link is being posted

      1. Enter the exact URL -- for example, a YouTube video, Instagram post, blog article, newsletter, or any other piece of content -- where your affiliate link will live. Learn more in this article: [**Assigning a Content URL to a Commerce Link.**](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/assigning-a-content-url-to-a-commerce-link)

   2. Price Comparison Page (optional): Create a price comparison page for your readers to find the best price for the products you recommend

      1. By toggling this feature on, your readers will be redirected to a product comparison page where they can find the same product across other merchants.

      2. This redirect will only occur if the URL is an eligible product link. Learn more in this article: [**Price Comparison Pages: Short Links.**](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/price-comparison-pages-short-links)

   3. Tracking (optional): Track individual link performance and acquisition

      1. Enter a Custom tracking ID (CUID). Learn more in this article: [++**CUIDs in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/CUIDs-in-Commerce-1677511072068)++**.**++

      2. Enter the Link UTM parameters that you would like to apply at the link level. Learn more here: [++**How to track link performance using UTM parameters.**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/How-to-track-link-performance-using-UTM-parameters-1677511072065)

   4. Advanced settings (optional): Additional link optimization settings

      1. Enter a *Bid floor* and *Fallback URL.* Learn more in this article: [++**Fallback URLs in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Fallback-URLs-in-Commerce)++**.**++

6. Click *Create* to save.

7. Your new affiliate link is then automatically copied to your clipboard.

8. Paste the link to your website, social media, etc. and start earning.

Just getting started? Check out our [++**in-depth guide**++](https://www.sovrn.com/blog/how-to-write-a-product-review-a-guide-for-affiliate-marketers/) on writing product reviews.

## Where can I place my links?

Links created with the Create Links feature are sometimes referred to as "Anywhere Links" and you can place them *nearly anywhere.* Here's the catch:

1. The link needs to be placed on the site that was selected from the drop-down when it was created.

2. This must be an approved site. It will have to have gone through the approval process in order to monetize, as described in this article: [++**Getting Started with Sovrn Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Getting-Started-with-Sovrn-Commerce-1677511082009). You can check the approval status [++**here**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration).

3. To affiliate successfully, make sure you've set up traffic segmentation correctly: [++**Traffic Segmentation in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Traffic-Segmentation-in-Commerce-1677511084958).

4. Make sure you're following [++**section 4 of the code of conduct**++](https://www.sovrn.com/legal/pub-conduct/) to prevent your approval status from being revoked for improper use of links.

## Why is traffic segmentation important when using the Create Links feature?

*Each unique location where you intend to add Sovrn affiliate links is required to be reviewed for approval individually.* This is called traffic segmentation, and not only does it help with reporting for your account, but it keeps your account in compliance with Sovrn and our Merchant and Network partners.

To learn more about traffic segmentation and to see examples, please read this article: [++**Traffic Segmentation in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Traffic-Segmentation-in-Commerce-1677511084958).
🗒️
**Note:** You only need to submit unique locations for approval (such as your Website, Facebook group, Instagram page, and App Store link). You do not need to add individual pages of a site for approval (such as [website.com/page1](http://website.com/page1) and [website.com/page2](http://website.com/page2)).

You can add additional sites, profiles, or softwares to your account[++**here**++](https://commerce.sovrn.com/publisher/sites)**.**

For example, someone with multiple social media accounts and a website, a [++**Settings page**++](https://commerce.sovrn.com/publisher/sites) with correctly segmented traffic would have separate sites submitted for:

* <http://instagram.com/page1>

* <http://instagram.com/page2>

* [http://website.com](http://website.com/)

To learn more on how to use the Settings page, including to check your site's approval status, please see: [++**Settings in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/Settings-in-Commerce-1677511081987).

Remember: When you generate links to use for affiliation, you should only place them on these sites (once they are approved). For more information on how to use your links, see [++**this FAQ.**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce#CreateLinksinCommerce-WherecanIplacemylinks?)

## How can I review and edit existing links?

1. From the [++**Create links**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/create-links) page, begin by selecting a "Site" from the dropdown to see all links created for the selected site.

2. Optional: In the search field, enter the desired *Link name* or *Product URL* to find a specific link.

3. Once you have found the link you would like to edit in the table, click on the *Edit* icon on the right side.

4. Enter a new *Product URL, Link name* or *Custom tracking ID* for the selected link.

5. Click *Save* and copy the link to your clipboard.

🗒️
**Note:** There is no need to repost or edit the link on your site, by saving your changes the link will now automatically redirect to the new product URL you have entered. Changes may take up to fifteen minutes to take effect.

## How can Create Links help me when the product goes out of stock?

Product out of stock? No problem! Update existing link destinations without logging into social media or your CMS.

Follow the [++**directions above**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce#CreateLinksinCommerce-HowcanIreviewandeditexistinglinks?) to edit an existing link. You can update the link to direct to a new merchant where the item is in stock. You won't need to change the link wherever it's been placed!
🗒️
**Note:**For this to be effective, you'll want to get in the habit of writing the surrounding content to be independent of references to a specific merchant.

## How do I delete links I don't need anymore?

Unfortunately, there is no way to do this at this time. However, you can edit your links following the [++**steps above**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce#CreateLinksinCommerce-HowcanIreviewandeditexistinglinks?) to change a link you don't need anymore to a different link you want to use.

## How can I add my own tracking to links?

If you would like to add custom tracking to your links, Sovrn recommends using our Custom Tracking ID (CUID). A CUID can be up to 32 alphanumeric characters. This ID can be appended to your affiliate links. Commonly, this is used to check on performance for a single affiliate link, a subset of affiliate links, or for tracking individual clicks back to a specific user in your system.

You can read more about CUIDs in our [++**building monetized URLs documentation.**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls)

*Sovrn also supports UTM tracking.* You can read more about how to implement this here:

[++**How to track link performance using UTM parameters**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/s/article/How-to-track-link-performance-using-UTM-parameters-1677511072065)

## How do I see reporting on Custom Tracking IDs?

You can see the performance of your CUIDs through the Transaction Reporting API. Here, you can see all revenue events that have originated from your account, and filter these events by your unique CUID value. You can also download a CUID/UTM tracking report via the [++**Sovrn Commerce Analytics Dashboard**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics/overview) by clicking on the "Report" button.

## Can I wrap links manually? How?

Yes! You can either wrap links in bulk or individually.

### **Link wrapping manually: one (or a few) links.**

Your links should be formatted like this:

` http://redirect.viglink.com?key=[Your_API_KEY]&u=[URL] `

Make sure to replace everything in the brackets, including the brackets themselves.

* *\[Your_API_KEY\]* You can find your API key on the [++**Settings page**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) in your Sovrn Commerce account.

* Look for the key icon in the row of the site where you are installing the link.

* *\[URL\]* This is the URL you want to affiliate. You need to make sure to "HTML encode" the URL to ensure Sovrn Commerce works properly. You can easily encode URL's [++**here**++](http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/). Just enter your URL and click "encode."

🚨
**Warning:** Make sure not to encode the entire wrapped URL - just the URL you want to affiliate.

### Wrapping links In bulk.

You may want to wrap multiple links at once. To make it easy, we've built a [++**Google spreadsheet**++](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r-BIWS3Ds0TiHOCo22YvH0gHBsqVVTO9wo7LjRLsp_g/edit#gid=0) that you can use to wrap multiple links quickly.

Go to File \> Make A Copy and just enter your links into Column A to generate wrapped links.

# CUIDs in Commerce

Our Platform dashboard provides a wealth of metrics, including revenue, clicks, sales, and page views. However, it doesn't currently offer a way to track specific members from your campaign, individual editor performance, products, links, or marketing campaigns.

If you need to identify a specific page or campaign containing an affiliate link, or track clicks from an affiliate link, Sovrn Commerce offers a solution: our product recognizes a specific parameter called "CUID" (Customer Identifier). By appending this parameter to the end of your affiliate links, you can track the CUID by running a report in the Platform or through our [++**CUIDs API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_reports-cuids).

## What does a CUID parameter require?

When utilizing a CUID parameter, keep the following requirements in mind:

* The CUID itself can be up to 2048 alphanumeric characters long.

* The CUID excludes special characters (!, ?, %, \*, ., \[, \], etc.).

* For your own reference, we recommend keeping a record of the CUIDs you use.

Below, we'll discuss a few different methods for appending a CUID parameter to your affiliate links.

### Create Links Method

If you're utilizing the [++**Create Links**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce) implementation method for generating affiliate links, you can easily add a CUID parameter. Publishers with social media platforms looking to track generated revenue from affiliate links on specific posts find success with this method!

1. Visit the [++**Create Links**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/create/links?campaignId=6297148&open=false) page in the Platform.

2. Click on the blue **+Create** button in the top right corner.

3. Here, you can create a new affiliate link and add a CUID parameter under the **Tracking (Optional)** section.

4. Additionally, you can add a CUID parameter to an existing affiliate link.

   1. Click on the "**Edit Link** " (Pencil) icon under the **Actions** column to edit a given affiliate link.

   2. Add a CUID parameter under the **Tracking (Optional)** section.

5. Under the "Custom tracking ID" field, you can input any alphanumeric string up to 2048 characters long to track your performance.

🗒️
**Note:** Sometimes your tracking parameters may not appear in your redirect path. Don't worry, we are still tracking them internally!

### Manually Wrapping Links in Bulk

If you're wanting to manually wrap your affiliate links in bulk, you can also also add a CUID parameter that way. Your links will be formatted like so:

`http://redirect.viglink.com?key=[Your_API_KEY]&u=[URL]&cuid=[CUID]`

Make sure to replace everything in the brackets, including the brackets themselves.

* *\[Your_API_KEY\]* - You can find your API key on the [++**Settings page**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/site-configuration) in your Sovrn Commerce account. Look for the key icon in the row of the site where you are installing the link.

* *\[URL\]* - This is the URL you want to affiliate. You need to make sure to "HTML encode" the URL to ensure Sovrn Commerce works properly. You can easily encode URL's [++**here**++](http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/). Just enter your URL and click "encode."

* *\[CUID\]* - This is the alphanumeric string you can input as your CUID to track your performance.

We also have built this [++**Google spreadsheet**++](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r-BIWS3Ds0TiHOCo22YvH0gHBsqVVTO9wo7LjRLsp_g/edit#gid=0) that you can use as a template to wrap your links in bulk. Please refer to the "[++**Can I wrap links manually? How?**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce#CreateLinksinCommerce-CanIwraplinksmanually?How?)" section from our [++**Create Links in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/create-links-in-commerce#CreateLinksinCommerce) article for more details.

### API Method

If you're utilizing the [++**API**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/api-onboarding-guide-for-commerce) implementation method for generating affiliate links, we offer our [++**Redirect API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls) which enables you to programmatically generate affiliate links and add in CUID parameters as well. This method works well for publishers who have a mobile app/software and still want to track specific items or users.

An example of an affiliate link that includes a CUID parameter will look something like:

`<https://redirect.viglink.com?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.macys.com%2Fshop%2Fproduct%2F%3FID%3D9792476&key=88ac2a40e081e283ac504d1789d398ac&cuid=12345abcde>`

Please refer to the documentation for the [++**Redirect API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/building-monetized-urls) on our [++**Developer Center**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/) for additional details.

### Javascript Method

If you're utilizing the [++**Commerce JavaScript**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/javascript-for-commerce) implementation method for generating affiliate links, you can easily add a CUID parameter as well. This works best if you're looking to apply a CUID to all affiliate links on your campaign or all affiliate links on specific pages of your campaign.

You can add a `cuid: 'yourowncuid'` field to your Sovrn Commerce JavaScript code, right after your API key. It should look something like this:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    var vglnk = { key: 'yourapikey', cuid: 'yourowncuid'};
    (function(d, t) {
      var s = d.createElement(t);
      s.type = 'text/javascript';
      s.async = true;
      s.src = '//cdn.viglink.com/api/vglnk.js';
      var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0];
      r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r);
    }
    (document, 'script'));
    </script>

## Reporting on CUIDs

Now that you've done all this hard work in setting up your CUID parameters, you can pull reports on them in order to assess your performance and help you optimize your content. You can pull reports on your CUIDs in a couple of different ways.

### Via the Sovrn Platform

Please log into your account on the Sovrn Platform in order to pull a report on your CUIDs.

1. Go to the [++**Analytics**++](https://platform.sovrn.com/commerce/analytics/overview?tab=Merchant&timeFrame=Last+7+days&rowsPerPage=25&graphMetric=Revenue) tab and click on the blue **Report** button in the top right corner.

2. Under the **Performance reports** section, Select the "Site" and the "Time frame" in which you'd like to generate a report.

3. Below, check the "CUID/UTM report" box.

4. Feel free to generate any reports at this time, if you'd like. Refer to our [++**Reports in Commerce**++](https://knowledge.sovrn.com/kb/reports-in-commerce) article for more detail.

5. Once you're all set, click on the blue **Send** button in the top right corner and your report will be emailed out to you within just a few minutes.

### Via the CUIDs API

The [++**CUIDs API**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/reference/get_reports-cuids) is available from our Developer Center. This endpoint is used to query aggregated performance metrics by CUID. Specifically, you cansee individual CUID performance, your top performing CUIDs, actualized earnings, and more, all in real-time. Metrics include Revenue, Clicks, Sales, Actions, Conversion Rate and EPC.

Carefully follow the steps outlined in the documentation, and be sure to include your Secret Key for [++**Authorization**++](https://developer.sovrn.com/docs/authorization) when you make the API call.

# Data Products: Email Monetization Overview

Did you know that you can monetize your email sends through Sovrn? When used in tandem with Sovrn display ads, you can get a more complete picture of your audience and how they're consuming your content.

Read on to learn about the Sovrn Hashed Email monetization product.

## **What is a Hashed Email?**

A hashed email is an encrypted version of an email address. Hashing makes it so that information is deliberately difficult to reconstruct after put through a given function, thus in the case of advertising, make a particular ID anonymized.

For example, let's say a website visitor's email address is visitor@yourwebsite.com. The md5 hashed version of this email would be 5710eda8857f20cc1fe7c4b19978bb64.

## **How are Hashed Emails Used and Monetized?**

1. *Direct monetization:* The Sovrn Hashed Email solution creates an additional revenue stream for publishers allowing them to monetize their data. Sovrn does so without sacrificing the privacy or security of a publisher's readers. Sovrn will pay publishers on the number of net-new unique hashed emails in a calendar month. Net-new means the hashed emails have to be incremental to the pool of emails Sovrn already receives from other publishers in the period. Sovrn will pay for the same data every month.

2. *Indirect monetization:* Stronger reader profiles provide demand partners more data, and thereby reward Sovrn publishers with increased CPMs.

## **How does Sovrn protect the reader's private information?**

Privacy and identity protection are important to Sovrn which is why we make sure our participating publishers update their privacy agreements before starting to monetize off their emails.

In addition, we encourage readers to be active participants in this process and allow them to opt-out of all Sovrn ad services via the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out tools [++**for desktop devices**++](https://optout.aboutads.info/?c=2&lang=EN) and [++**mobile devices**++](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/appchoices/id894822870).

## **How much incremental revenue can I expect from email monetization?**

In terms of direct monetization, at the current moment, you should expect around 100,000 unique hashed email linkages to result in around $350 MRR. Our Data as a Service team is working hard to continue developing relationships with trusted data management companies that will continue to drive revenue per unique linkages up.

Please note that this is not counting the indirect lift that can be expected in terms of fill rate and higher CPMs if you are working with us through our advertising products. This product promotes larger circulation of our Sovrn cookies as well as those of our demand partners to give advertisers a better sense of readership. Currently, we have a 50/50 revenue split set up for all linkage monetization efforts.

## **When does the publisher get paid?**

As the month ends partners need to verify the total linkages sent from Sovrn before we can distribute earnings. At the very latest, publishers would receive their earnings 45 days after the month ends.

## **What do I need to get started with email monetization?**

In order to get started with email monetization, there are a couple things that need to be in place:

1. Sign the [++**Data Provider Contract**++](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BuqOMliRCYbCmTMMLRCVw8OXox_K3qXo/view) and ensure that your [++**privacy standards**++](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1svkSH168NYoGjVYVJTS3SbGl8IekiBPgYbxwJvW8_vM/edit?usp=sharing) are in compliance

2. Reach out to [++**linkage@sovrn.com**++](#) with your signed contract attached. We will then provide a unique Publisher ID or "PID"

# Do I need to allow any crawlers for Sovrn to monetize my inventory?

Yes. Sovrn uses the IAB's **ads.txt crawler** to validate ads.txt compliance for every domain you submit for monetization. This crawler reads the `ads.txt` file hosted at the root of your domain to confirm that Sovrn is listed as an authorized seller of your inventory. The crawler information you'll want to allow-list is:

* User Agent: "IAB-Tech-Lab"

* IP Address:

  * Production - 34.136.234.48

  * Staging - 35.238.173.139

## Why does Sovrn crawl your ads.txt?

Before DSPs will bid on your inventory, they verify that the seller sending them a bid request is actually authorized by the publisher. They do this by checking the ads.txt file on your domain. If Sovrn isn't listed --- or if the listing contains errors --- DSPs will reject those bid requests, and you'll lose revenue as a result.

Sovrn's crawler runs this same check on your behalf to make sure your domain remains eligible for monetization. Compliance is monitored on an ongoing basis, so any changes you make to your ads.txt file should be reflected within **2 business days**.

## What does Sovrn's crawler actually check?

The crawler fetches the file at `yourdomain.com/ads.txt` and verifies that the correct Sovrn entries are present and properly formatted. Specifically, it looks for lines in this format:

    lijit.com, [YOUR_ACCOUNT_ID], DIRECT, fafdf38b16bf6b2b
    lijit.com, [YOUR_ACCOUNT_ID]-eb, DIRECT, fafdf38b16bf6b2b

You can find your exact ads.txt lines --- including your account ID --- in the Sovrn Platform [here](https://platform.sovrn.com/advertising/ads-txt).

## Does my ads.txt file need to be publicly accessible?

Yes. Your `ads.txt` file must be accessible from all IP geolocations. If the crawler (or a DSP's crawler) can't reach the file due to geo-blocking or access restrictions, your inventory will not be eligible for monetization.

The file must be hosted at the root level of your domain --- for example, `https://yoursite.com/ads.txt`. HTTP to HTTPS redirects on the same root domain are acceptable.

## What if I'm monetizing a mobile app?

For mobile app inventory, the equivalent standard is **app-ads.txt** . Instead of being hosted at your app's URL (apps don't have a root domain), the file is hosted on your developer website --- for example, `https://yourdcompany.com/app-ads.txt`. Sovrn's crawler follows the same IAB-standard process: it retrieves your developer website URL from the app store listing, then fetches your app-ads.txt from that domain.

App-ads.txt compliance is also monitored continuously.

## What happens if I'm not compliant?

If Sovrn's crawler can't validate your ads.txt entries --- because the file is missing, inaccessible, or contains incorrect lines --- your domain or app may be flagged or denied for monetization. Make sure your file matches exactly what's shown in the Sovrn Platform, and avoid formatting issues like using `www.` before the domain name in your entry lines.

# Does Sovrn employ traffic shaping?

Yes. The Sovrn Ad Exchange employs traffic shaping. Traffic shaping is the practice of intelligently managing which bid requests are sent to which demand partners, and in what volume, rather than broadcasting every request to every buyer. Sovrn uses it to keep the exchange running efficiently and to send demand partners the requests they're most likely to want.

## Why Sovrn uses traffic shaping

Sovrn employs traffic shaping on the Ad Exchange to manage a handful of things:

* **Managing QPS to demand partners.** Traffic shaping lets Sovrn control queries per second (QPS) to each demand partner, so buyers receive the appropriate volume of bid requests at any given time rather than more than they can effectively handle.

* **Reducing the cost of handling bid requests.** Processing bid requests carries infrastructure cost. Traffic shaping helps Sovrn reduce the cost of handling requests on its side, which keeps the exchange efficient.

* **Driving competition within your ad stack.** By prioritizing the requests Sovrn is more confident will win, traffic shaping helps drive stronger competition across your ad stack and focuses on sending bids that are more likely to result in a win.

## What traffic shaping means for you as a publisher

For publishers on the Sovrn Ad Exchange, traffic shaping supports a cleaner, more efficient supply path. Sending demand partners the requests they're most likely to bid on --- rather than flooding them with low-probability requests --- concentrates competition on your most winnable impressions and aligns with the supply-path efficiency that major DSPs increasingly reward.

# Does Sovrn enforce a ceiling for tmax?

Yes. Sovrn enforces a tmax ceiling of 500ms. `tmax` is the OpenRTB field that specifies the maximum time, in milliseconds, that Sovrn allows for bids to be received before the request times out. Even if you pass a higher value, Sovrn's limit is 500ms.

## What tmax controls

In Sovrn's oRTB specification, `tmax` defines the maximum time in milliseconds that the Sovrn Ad Exchange will wait for bids to come back on a given request. A tmax that's too short can cut off valid bids before they arrive, while an unnecessarily long one adds latency; the 500ms ceiling keeps auctions fast without discarding legitimate demand.

## What the 500ms ceiling means for you

Because the Sovrn Ad Exchange caps tmax at 500ms, you should set your `tmax` at or below that limit. Passing a value above 500ms will not extend the auction window beyond Sovrn's ceiling. Setting an appropriate tmax helps ensure buyers have enough time to respond while keeping the ad request efficient.

# Does Sovrn monetize on child-directed content?

No. Sovrn does not allow child-directed content on the Ad Exchange. Any domain or app bundle geared toward children is not eligible for monetization on Sovrn.

## Sovrn's policy on child-directed inventory

Sovrn prohibits child-directed inventory in order to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and FTC guidance. Sovrn evaluates whether a property is child-directed using the FTC's multi-factor criteria --- including subject matter, visual and audio style, use of child-oriented characters, language complexity, and audience data. Properties determined to be child-directed cannot be monetized through the Sovrn Ad Exchange.

## How Sovrn handles a COPPA signal in the bid request

Sovrn also enforces COPPA at the individual bid request level. If a COPPA signal is passed as `true` for a given bid request, Sovrn will drop that bid request rather than attempt to monetize it. This ensures that requests flagged as subject to COPPA are never offered to demand on the exchange.

## What to do if your property was misclassified

If your property was denied as child-directed but you believe it was misclassified, you can request a re-review. Gather evidence that your content is not directed to children and share it with Sovrn Support. For the full child-directed criteria and remediation guidance, see [My application/bundle was denied.
